Finsbury Park folk are going to feel deeply smug this summer when the Four Legs team open their second place. Not only will they have their top pub The Plimsoll on their doorstep, but they'll also be able to wander up Stroud Green Road to try out the crew's new restaurant, Tollington's.
Billed as an 'Iberian fish bar' it sees Four Legs' Ed McIlroy taking over the old fish and chip shop on Tollington Road. Much in the same way they kept the original pub vibe at The Plimsoll, they're aiming to do the same at Tollington's with the tiling, formica floors and even the dish fat fish fryers remaining in place. Similarly, Tollington's will feature a walk-in bar as well as a bookable restaurant at the back.
As Ed explains, "Jamie and I have spent a lot of time in Spain with family based there and we just love the no-nonsense way of doing things. We want people to come in, have a drink, lean on a ledge and have a quick bite or stay for a while and enjoy some big plates around a table."
To that end, most of the menu will focus on the kind of food you'd find in a Spanish coastal restaurant with plates of cured, fresh, and fried options. Everything on the drinks menu will be available by the glass and in addition to wine and beer there'll also be Spanish vermouth on offer here.
On a preview menu, dishes included:
- Chips bravas
- Devilled crab
- Smoked eel omelette
- Pork neck and broad beans
As for the drinks the beer - Estrella will be served as a cana, double or jug. You can kick off with a glass of vermouth or fino and there's a tightly edited wine selection of two to four options for white, red and rose. We're also pleased to see Vichy Catalana mineral water on the menu.
Expect this to be one of the hottest places around when it opens its doors.
