Chefs, hospitality folk, press and influencers gathered in London on Monday evening to celebrate StreetSmart raising 1 million pounds from their most recent campaign.
For the first time in its 25-year history, the campaign topped the £1 million mark with diners each contributing £1 per table during the Christmas period at 610 participating restaurants.
Restaurants including Acme Fire Cult, Brother Marcus and Manteca were joined by The Art School in Liverpool, Mana in Manchester and Harbour House in Bristol to help raise the record amount of £1,059,000 to help homeless people in their cities.
Guests celebrated at Parrillan Borough Yards with jamon croquetas, cava and doughnuts provided by Long Boys. One of the homeless projects StreetSmart supports, ‘The Choir with no name’ performed under the arches and awards were handed out to Fallow who raised nearly £30,000 and Jeremy Lee for his long-standing support of the charity.
Kimberley Coke, Comms and Partnerships director at StreetSmart said ‘We are absolutely delighted to have hit the £1m landmark and keen to thank all the brilliant restaurateurs and their staff who took part and surpassed our expectations given the tough times faced by the industry. This money will change the lives of so many facing homelessness and I couldn’t be more proud with the result.”
And London's restaurant goers can also give themselves a pat on the back for helping raise that money.
