It's been a year of pretty high-profile restaurant closures, particularly in the famous chef/high-end side of things. We've already had the closure of Marcus Wareing's Marcus and Michel Roux's Le Gavroche, while Jason Atherton's Pollen Street Social is closing later this year. Now comes the news that Monica Galetti's Mere is also calling it a day.
Revealing the news on Instagram, Galetti said "It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of Mere restaurant- but we feel this is the right time after 7yrs!"
The restaurant opened in Fitzrovia back in 2017, and saw Monica partnering with her sommelier husband David Galetti (pictured above). While the chef has an extremely high profile thanks to her TV appearances and although the restaurant was well-reviewed, it never managed to get recognition from Michelin. Galetti's not standing still though - a day later she announced she's doing the menus for Singapore Airlines' suites. We'll have to wait and see if she has any more restaurant plans for London.
