If you're ever wondering what the sign of a hot restaurant is going to be in advance then look no further than the upcoming return of chef Kirk Haworth's Plates restaurant. The Great British Menu 2024 winner announced last night that bookings had opened for Plates' new venue in Shoreditch and the deluge of bookings promptly crashed the website. More than 70k people were trying to get hold of a table with bookings now running into the early next year.
Haworth, who's opening the plant-based restaurant on Old Street with his sister Keeley, has promised fans that several of the dishes that won him the show will be on offer including Feast of Farah and A Taste of Unity (pictured above).
If you haven't encountered Haworth's food before, or seen him on the TV, the chef trained up at top-rated establishments like The French Laundry and Sat Bains. After being diagnosed with Lyme disease he found solace and recovery through a plant-based diet which prompted him to change the way he cooks.
Dishes on Plates menu sound very intricate and will include:
- Carrots, brined in Korean aromats, lightly smoked and caramelised over coals, topped with leek-top kimchi, whipped aioli, crispy wild rice, and spirulina powder and served with pickled kohlrabi and spiced pear.
- Charcoal ravioli stuffed with a ragu of mung beans and a tomato reduction, and served with a sauce made from miso, toasted yeast and cashew milk
- Organic summer tomatoes dried and acidulated, with seaweed jam, housemade ricotta, fresh English strawberries and a chilled consomme of ripe tomatoes.
If you missed out on booking the first time around, a second chance is incoming. Bookings for October to January open on 17 April 2024 on their website at noon. Set a reminder now!
