Another high-profile restaurant closure has been announced, with Jason Atherton's Mayfair restaurant Pollen Street Social due to shut its doors at the end of July. The chef announced the closure on Instagram, saying "it has been a rollercoaster of a ride and wonderful journey but it’s time for us to say goodbye."
Pollen Street Social has been the signature restaurant in the Jason Atherton empire, even lending its name to his company, The Social Company. Opening 13 years ago, the restaurant was Atherton's first solo venture after working in the Gordon Ramsay group. It quickly became a big hit, earning a Michelin star in its first 6 months, which it has kept to this date.
Since Pollen Street Social opened, Jason Atherton's restaurant group has expanded across the globe, but the original restaurant remained the one where you were most likely to see him actually in the kitchen. That restaurant group means that there are still many restaurants for Atherton to focus on, not least a few that still keep the "social" name.
The chef has been linked to a number of possible new restaurant openings in Mayfair, both on Bruton Place and Savile Row. We're also hearing that Pollen Street itself might reopen in a new guise and under a new name, so we'll keep you posted on all of that when we learn more.
