If you've been wondering what that lengthy queue snaking down Broadway Market at the weekends is for, let us enlighten you. Emerald Eats is an Irish food stall that's gone fully viral over the past few weeks. Their secret has been tapping into the deepest desires of Irish expats, serving up a short menu of takeaway food that isn't easy to come by in London.
The stall's the brainchild of three Irish folk in London. Henry Spellmen (who used to work in The Auld Shillelagh in Stoke Newington), musician Niall Morrissey whose other gig is working at The Three Compasses in Dalston, and Emma Moran who's just given up her day job working for Treasury Wines to work on this full time.
It was after a few pints in the pub talking about how homesick they were in London that the trio came up with the idea to serve up spice bags and hot chicken fillet rolls. The latter is pretty self-explanatory but if you haven't come across a spice bag before you'll need to know that this traditional post-pub dish consists of salt and pepper chicken and chips with peppers and onions, drenched in curry sauce.
The result: massive queues can be expected wherever they are. We'd advise going early if you want to be sure of getting to try it.
