Every year, just before the new Michelin stars are announced, there's some buzz about who might be getting a new star. And this month, when it came to potential new two starred restaurants, Endo at the Rotunda was definitely a name being bandied around.
While they didn't get that extra star this year. we'd say that their news this week means they're gunning for it next time around. The restaurant, which opened in 2019, is getting ready to close its doors for a big refurbishment, lasting until the summer. The redesign is by the people who did the original design, Kengo Kuma, and one of the big new additions to the restaurant will be a new bar area. This should allow diners to start or end a meal there and we've seen that this is often a feature of the higher-starred Michelin establishments.
The restaurant is also getting a new "hot kitchen" which means more dishes can be completely prepared in front of diners - making this more of an all-round chef's table experience. Or, to phrase it as they do, it's all about "diners being made to feel part of the experience and welcomed into Endo’s workspace. "
Of course, while the restaurant is closed, Endo Kazutoshi can also concentrate on the big new openings he's got coming before the summer - his rooftop restaurant at The OWO and the revamp of 20 Berkeley to become Niji. So it's pretty handy timing.
We'll bring you more news of the redesign as it gets ready to reopen.
