Deep-dish Detroit pizza is becoming a bit of a thing again. We've had Ria's in Notting Hill and Kin Pizza in Notting Hill while Detroit Pizza, already a big deal in Spitalfields, has just opened its second restaurant, in Islington.
You'll find the new pizzeria tucked away on an alleyway just off Upper Street next to Meatliquor (it's where Mesón Callejón used to be). There you'll find all the things that made the original such a big hit.
The restaurant originally started in the pandemic in a hole-in-the-wall situation in Battersea and it's been big news since then. The pizzas are all cooked in square deep-dish blue steel pans with options including:
- Detroit - Pepperoni, jalapeño, honey, parsley, parmesan
- Cadillac - Pepperoni, smoked bacon, banana peppers, honey, marinara red top, parsley, parmesan
- Bacon Double Cheeseburger - Mince beef, bacon, onions, pickles, sesame, American cheese, burger sauce.
- Tuscan- Baby plum tomatoes, artichokes, mixed olives, basil, parmesan, olive oil
Plus, according to their Instagram feed, there will be deep-fried lasagna too (see below).
So if you've heard about Detroit pizza and fancied giving it a go, there's one more place to try it in London.
Thanks to Hot Dinners reader Richard for spotting it.
