RAI omakase restaurant returns, this time in Bloomsbury

RAI omakase restaurant returns, this time in Bloomsbury

RAI, from the same people behind Islington's Hot Stone, originally launched in Fitzrovia before closing last year. But now the restaurant is back again in a different location, just up the road in Bloomsbury.

The food is once again led by Executive Chef Padam Raj Rai (previously at Nobu, Sake no Hana and Tsukiji) and it'll be an omakase-only restaurant, with dishes in the multi-course menu including:

  • Homemade tofu and natto gyoza accompanied by traditional dashi broth
  • Ikijime seabass garnished with yuzu beurre blanc, & kombu and citrus oil
  • Hand-dived Scallops from Scotland with yuzu, shisho pesto & British caviar
  • Unagi & ethical foie gras with English truffle

That's as well as sushi and sashimi with koshihikari rice, sanpuku nori with aged soy sauces and freshly grated Japanese wasabi. The menu is £130, which is actually at the lower end of things for omakase restaurants in London.

As for the look of the new RAI, the main focus seems to be the eight-person counter, but there are also five tables if you're not a counter dining person.
