After success launching Nessa in Soho, chef Tom Cenci is also taking on another restaurant by the same group, Mortimer House Kitchen. It'll be different to Soho's British menu though, with Mortimer House being a strictly Italian affair.
The menu is apparently influenced by Cenci's family summers on the Amalfi coast and includes:
- Zucchini caesar with parmesan and pangrattato
- Maccheroni with taleggio with truffle and black pepper
- Sea Bass alla Mugnaia, caviar, samphire
- Sirloin steak served on focaccia, with charred onions
- Torta 900 - a traditional chocolate cake from Turin
Overall, it's a notably vegetarian-friendly menu, with the Italian influence carrying through to breakfast and brunch for dishes like Tuscan beans on toast with focaccia and Pecorino. Cocktails have the Italian touch too, with drinks like the Tramonto (El Dorado 3yo, Cointreau, Campari, vanilla, raspberry, lime, egg white).
The restaurant's new approach is due to officially launch in February, but it looks like the menu is already up and running now. Switching to Italian has always done well for this restaurant which previously housed a well-regarded residency by ex-L'anima chef Lello Favuzzi back pre-Covid. So we're feeling pretty positive about this new menu.
