Shrimp Shack makes its London debut in Streatham

shrimp shack opens in streatham

If you feel that London's restaurant scene has quite enough burger chains or fried chicken shops, then a new opening in Streatham may have your name on it. The owners, who include the co-founder of Creams Balal Aquil, reckon that shrimp is where it's at in 2024.

Shrimp Shack opened in the weeks before Christmas on Streatham High Road. The idea is for the diner to build their own shrimp platter. First, you pick the size of shrimp - Prince or Queen. Then comes the dip - lemon butter, garlic butter or peri-peri plus the level of heat. Sides are the final touch and include loaded fries, rice or salad.

Other items on the launch menu are shrimp tempura sushi and seafood boils loaded with prawns, mussels, calamari, cod and crab. If prawns aren't your thing there are meaty options like lamb chops with lemon butter and chicken livers on ciabatta. Desserts are simple - choose from cheesecake or milk cake, or ice-cream.

"We wanted to launch something totally unique," says Balal, "that is different from the hundreds of burger chains around." It sounds like they're aiming to open a lot more of these in London this year so if you want to be first in on a new trend you should probably head down to Streatham to try it out.
