If there's one thing you can be sure of, the arrival of January means you can expect to be bombarded with all things Veganuary. It can all get pretty tedious which makes us happy to bring you news about one restaurant company swimming against the tide. Burger & Beyond has been working on an 'Anti Veganuary' menu. Not only that, they've also brought in top butcher Richard Turner to help them with it.
For the month of January they're not simply going big on meat, they're actually removing all vegan dishes from the menu to allow them to bring in more carnivorous options. The new menu will only be available for dining in, but they do sound pretty darned good - rump fillet steak with bone marrow and onion; ham egg and chips; green chilli cheeseburger and thick-cut maple bacon.
Turner, who was involved in both Hawksmoor and Blacklock and who now runs his own butchers Turner & George, will be supplying all the meat for the new dishes focusing on rare-breed beef and pork that's been aged in-house.
It might all sound pretty provocative but, as Burger & Beyond's co-founder Tom explains it's "a great chance for us to shout about and champion eating responsibly sourced and reared meat."
"As a butcher, it goes without saying that I think Veganuary is an unhelpful message," adds Richard. "If you want to eat less meat then just buy less, but better quality. Support your local butcher!”
