8/7/24 - Updated with an opening date
It's been a while since we've seen the last Kricket restaurant opening, over in White City in 2018, but they're now getting ready to open some more.
The first of these will be in Canary Wharf, opening in the North Dock area (close to the Elizabeth Line station there). If you're unfamiliar with Kricket, they describe themselves as "modern Indian restaurants combining British ingredients with the flavours and aromas of India." They originally started out in a container at Pop Brixton and have gone on to ever bigger things since then.
As for the food at Canary Wharf, expect classics like their samphire pakoras and Keralan fried chicken alongside a few brand-new dishes. Those include:
- Smoked onions with a sheep’s yoghurt and curry leaf brown butter
- Beef seekh kebab with an onion glaze, horseradish and watercress.
- Day-boat squid stuffed with a squid and Goan sausage biryani
On top of this, they'll have Murg mussallam - a whole stuffed chicken cooked over charcoal.
They've also had success with their Soma cocktail bar, which opened next to Kricket in Soho. This was originally to be "reimagined" from the original but now it seems to be much closer to Soma 1.0, being a speakeasy-style cocktail bar with a late opening licence. They are adding a new cocktail though, called Rice, featuring rice vodka, spent rice, pomegranate and chai foam.
