There were celebrations up in Cumbria yesterday as Simon Rogan's flagship restaurant L'enclume came in at no. 1 on La Liste's pick of the 1000 best restaurants in the world. L'Enclume tied for joint first place with a number of other restaurants, all with a final score of 99.50, including Le Bernardin in New York and Sushi Saito in Japan.
Other top-rating UK restaurants in the upper echelons of this year's list include Core by Clare Smyth, Moor Hall, Ynyshir and Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons. There are 78 UK restaurants in total on it.
We'll admit to not being all that clued-up on what La List is but a quick look at their website says the top 1000 tally is made up of looking at thousands of publications, hundreds of guidebooks, and millions of online reviews.
