Just coming off a recent residency at The Sea, The Sea, TATA Eatery's Ana Gonçalves and Zijun Meng are planning their next big thing, Solis, which is opening in the new Arcade food hall in Battersea.
Solis is being billed primarily as a chicken and steak grill, but one with a difference, taking specific influences from Spain, Portugal, Uruguay and Argentina.
Thre are two key mains on offer here. One option is half a spatchcock chicken with their signature smoked Aji-Aji oil. Alternatively, you can opt for the flat-iron steak with Solis' version of entrecôte sauce. Choose either of those and it'll come with fries and an asador salad. That's a salad of sliced onion and tomatoes, dressed with oregano and olive oil which you'll find in peri peri chicken shops in Portugal.
Outside of those two options, there are plenty of snacks on offer. You'll find Huevos Rellenos (see below), which is their play on devilled eggs with a spiced tuna filling as well as Elotes Asados - grilled corn on the cob with crema dressing and lime and chilli seasoning. There are beef croquetas with caramelised onion, house chimichurri on a slice of baguette and fans of gildas will find them on the menu too.
As for drinks, we like the idea of sangria by the glass or jug and cocktails will include the Medio y Medio - that's a mix of dry white wine and sweet sparkling wine. Talking of wine, there's a short list that will include Uruguayan wine by the glass.
As for Solis itself, it will be a standalone restaurant even though it's part of Arcade, seating about 80. For the look of the place, expect classic hardwood furniture and oak panelling, intended to transport you "to the clamorous parrillas of Montevideo’s old town market".
Of the opening, Ana Gonçalves says: "Solis is a very personal restaurant for me. I wanted to create a place for everyone, that serves the type of food I have experienced since I was little; very simple, but full of flavour and approachable". It's already sounding like another hit from a team with a great track record.
