Three years after F Cooke closed its doors on Broadway Market after 120 years of trading, citing a lack of Eastenders, the iconic pie and mash shop is returning to its former home - for one day only.
The Cooke family have been invited back by the current occupiers of the old pie shop, spectacle sellers Cubitts. Cubitts took over the site left vacant since F Cooke's departure this summer - the building's Grade II listing meant that the original signage, food counter, dining benches and more have all been retained.
For the one-day popup, F Cooke will be serving their pies, mash and liquor out of the original hatch from 11am until stock runs out. The pies themselves will have been made at Cooke's Essex branch in Chelmsford. "If you fancy eating pies and testing your eyes, we look forward to seeing you," the piemakers say. Sidenote for any Hackney denizens coming with their Apple Pay at the ready - this will be a cash-only event.
