If you’ve enjoyed the Peruvian flavours of Floral by Lima over the past decade, there’s a shake-up on the way. Be alert, not alarmed, though. In these recent weeks of significant restaurant closures, it’s reassuring to learn that this much-loved venue in Covent Garden is still going strong, just having a bit of a renovation and a rebrand.
We're told to expect an even more authentic Peruvian experience from Lima Cantina, with both restaurant and kitchen completely overhauled to produce a more convivial space. There’ll be a sharing-style menu that they say aims to keep the cuisine both accessible to those unfamiliar with Peruvian dishes while also celebrating the classics.
Perhaps the most exciting aspect is the arrival of London’s only Peruvian charcoal-rotisserie oven. Called a ‘rotombo’, it’s used for the creation of Pollo a La Brasa, a dish even more popular in Peru than ceviche. In the rotombo, the smoke directly penetrates the meat of the rotisserie chicken, marinated for 24 hours in chef Roberto Sihuay’s Peruvian herbs and spices, while keeping the skin crispy. It’ll then be accompanied by a Cantina sauce of aji Amarillo and huacatay. And this will be just one of the menu items on the new ‘Barbacoa’ section of the menu. We’re mentally ordering our Pisco Sours already.
In addition to this, you can expect the following dishes.
- Ají panca BBQ pork ribs
- Sea bream ceviche
- Prawn causa nigiri with mash and anticucho sauce
And while we will also be saying farewell to The Lost Alpaca bar as you may know it, that will be replaced by a new cocktail bar in the upstairs area. We'll have more details on that soon.
