Michel Roux Jr announces that Le Gavroche is closing

Michel Roux Jr has announced that one of London's iconic restaurants, Le Gavroche is closing.

The decision to close the restaurant (which has been open over 55 years) has come as the restaurant comes to the end of its lease and also due to Roux Jr himself looking for a better work/life balance. In the announcement, the chef said "The end of the current lease gave me the opportunity to assess and consider the future, and I’d like the restaurant to close on a high. It’s about turning the page and moving forward so I can focus on my family and other business ventures."

But the chef says that Le Gavroche may be back in one form or another before too long and we're told it "will continue to be a familiar presence in popups both at home and abroad, as well as in Michel’s other ventures." One of the first pop-ups promises to be an ocean-going one with Cunard.

The restaurant originally opened in 1967 under Albert Roux and Michel Roux Sr, with Michel Roux Jr taking over in 1991.

There had been perhaps signs that trouble was afoot with the restaurant earlier being forced to end its set lunch deal, one of the best deals in London and how many (including us) got to experience Le Gavroche for the first time. And we're certainly going to miss one of the very best cheese trolleys we've ever witnessed

But it's not done yet. The restaurant will remain open until January 2024 so if you haven't had the chance to go yet - better hurry up.
