The people of Brixton Village have a new reason to celebrate, they’re about to get a brand-new wine bar, and one that champions English wines, no less.
It’s called Finch and while it will feature a curated selection of world wines, they’ll be focusing on small and experimental winemakers, whether you fancy a glass of crisp bubbles or more obscure orange wines. It’s the latest in avian-themed bars from the Grays and Feather company, following their launch of Plume in Covent Garden in 2018 (there’s also Peregrine slated to open in Leadenhall Market later this year).
It’s an intimate venue, seating just 12 inside what they’re calling a ‘cabinet of curiosities’, inspired by the plumage of the finch bird. Outside, there’s space for 18, where you can admire a rotating exhibition of work from Brixton artists (forming part of the Brixton Art Trail). Outside is also where you’re able to bring in your favourite food from Brixton Village’s other venues, which sounds like a fine place to meet that fussy friend.
But you might as well settle in and try out Finch’s own bar snacks and sharing plates, carefully designed to pair with the wines, featuring the likes of:
- Claw and Craw Roll: lobster and crawfish with Marie Rose sauce and chive in a brioche roll
- Baked Camembert with honey, rosemary and sourdough
- Artichoke pesto burrata and toast
- Locally sourced cheese
- Cured meat boards
- Fresh Maldon oysters
If you’re not partial to wine, you’ll still be well looked after. There’ll be cocktails (barrel-aged negronis, Old Fashioneds, and margaritas, along with seasonal Brixton-inspired specials), and Grays and Feather’s own Feral beer. As the festive season draws nearer, you can expect their popular mulled wine, made to a secret family recipe.
