It's been nearly four years since Jamie Oliver's restaurants went into administration in the UK. Since then, he's had pasta pop-ups and opened restaurants abroad but nothing new in the UK - until now.
He's getting ready to open a brand new restaurant and it's called... Jamie Oliver. Well, "Jamie Oliver Catherine Street" to be precise, but we're pretty sure that more locations will be planned after this one.
In charge of the kitchen here will be Chris Shail, who has apparently been working with Jamie For several years. He's joined by pastry chef Emma Jackson, previously at Soho Farmhouse and Petersham Nurseries.
The menu is intended to be "reflective of Jamie’s love of Britain’s rich and diverse food culture, and champions independent makers and suppliers." On that menu will be:
- Devilled eggs with sustainable Exmoor caviar
- Vegan smoked tofu “tarama” with heritage radishes and celery salt
- Roast Sutton Hoo chicken with stroganoff sauce, shoestring fries and baked wild mushroom rice
- Onion tarte tatin with Tropea onions, confit garlic, Pilton cider and Colston Bassett cheese
- Snickersphere — a dome of Hill St. chocolate filled with peanut butter semifreddo, salted caramel and peanut praline plus buttermilk ice cream and butterscotch sauce
We're told the restaurant will have a courtyard garden as the entrance to the restaurant which will feature art from the chef's favourite artists and photographers on the walls.
There's going to be a lot of focus on this one, for sure. Can a Jamie Oliver restaurant compete in a marketplace that is significantly different from when he started Jamie's Italian and Fifteen? We'll have to see.
