Updated 24/8/23 with a new opening date
You'll soon have a good reason to get stuck at Canary Wharf tube station when Karapincha, a new Sri Lankan restaurant from twin sisters Vasanthini and Dharshini Perumal, opens its doors. You may have previously encountered the financiers turned street food traders pop-ups at food courts or even enjoyed attending one of their supper clubs but this will be the first bricks and mortar site for the siblings.
In fact, it’s a bit of a homecoming, as their first Karapincha stall opened in Canary Wharf five years ago, followed by branches at Mercato Metropolitano and Old Spitalfields Market two years later. They were also at Market Place Vauxhall.
As for the menu, you can expect signature favourites, either boxed up to takeaway or with the option to dine in the intimate setting (there's just 10 seats).
- Devilled chicken with fried rice
- Kothu Roti: spicy stir-fry of shredded roti bread with vegetables, green leaves, with chicken/lamb/vegan options
- Sweet or savoury hoppers
- Lamb crispy rolls
But Canary Wharf will also mark the first time they've put on a breakfast offering for spice-starved commuters which includes ham-and-cheese-stuffed rotis, French toast and Ceylon tea.
