Every once in a while we hear about an opening with a dream team that really makes us sit up and pay attention. That's definitely the case with The Watermans Arms in Barnes which is reopening next month. The waterside pub had been closed for a year, but when it flings opens its doors once more it will be with the former head chef of the Camberwell Arms running the kitchen.
Head chef Sam Andrews is being joined by manager Simon Walsh, who used to be at the also highly-rated Anglesea Arms in Hammersmith. And behind the project is Joe Grossmann who is the founder of Patty&Bun and grew up locally. See what we mean about a good team?
As for that food, downstairs on the pub menu will be sourdough toasts with rouille and mussels and lamb ribs with yoghurt and honey. In the main restaurant space downstairs and upstairs the menu gets a bit more complex with dishes like:
- Cannelloni, pumpkin & radicchio
- Hake, mussel, tomato & bread stew
- Spit Roast chicken with chicken fat polenta
The Watermans Arms has been a long-time dream of mine," says Joe. "The bones of the place are incredible with high ceilings, beautiful original windows and doors along with a balcony overlooking the water. There are not many locations like it in London, it’s completely unique."
