What to do when mere conveyor belts are no longer a sufficiently exciting food delivery system? As once declared on The Simpsons "Well sir, there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide electrified monorail" and now there's one in Shoreditch serving up sushi.
How does that actually work in practice, you ask? Well, we'll be glad to explain. You simply place your order and when it's all ready it'll come shooting across to you on a maglev monorail, stopping beside your table. Just pick up your dishes and the train will shoot back to the kitchen. On top of that, if you look at the picture above you'll see a little letterbox. When you're finished with each dish, rather than waiting for the plate to get picked up, you just post it through there. All very tech-forward indeed.
Chuo is serving up 40 different types of sushi and izakaya-style dishes in a kitchen led by Head Chef Armanto Tsatsa, who was previously at Miro Mayfair and Lucky Cat. Alongside sashimi, nigiri and more, you'll find prawn or veg tempura and various yakitori. There are also their signature rolls, including the Green Dragon (ebi, avocado, cucumber, spicy mayo) and the Beef Roll (beef, carrot, cucumber, red pepper, rocket, takuan, teriyaki sauce).
There are hints that this is only the first Chuo to arrive, so expect more monorails soon...
