Changes are afoot at Kebab Queen, the hidden counter restaurant underneath Maison Bab in Covent Garden. If you're unfamiliar with the place, it's counter dining with a difference - in that the counter itself is heated and the meal is cooked and served directly onto that, no plates required.
Now, after former chef Manu Canales has moved on, they've brought in a brand new head chef to lead the proceedings, Pamir Zeydan. Having worked with Canales and Philli Armitage Mattin in her recent residency here, he's now taking over the reins.
In a menu that we're told "celebrates the essence of Mediterranean cuisine" as well as drawing on Pamir's Turkish origins, dishes to kick things off include:
- Dover sole kebab served on an ironed hispi cabbage taco with roasted red pepper purée
- Spit-roast Cag kebab of aged Dalesbred mutton with puffed pita, charred heritage tomato ragù, smoked Turkish yoghurt, charred Carlston pepper, shallot and sumac salad.
So if you haven't yet been to Kebab Queen, and it's definitely an experience worth trying, this sounds like a good time to go.
