Last week we brought you the news that the longstanding London restaurant Simpson's in the Strand was selling off all its furniture and silverware. Well now it's the turn of the Maybourne Hotel Group which owns Claridge’s, The Connaught and The Berkeley to sell off some of its old furniture and artworks.
There are going to be three auctions - you can view the catalogues online here - selling off items like furniture from the King's cousin David Linley and sofas and chairs from top restaurant designer David Collins.
Having scanned through the catalogues, our top picks would be some tub chairs designed by Linley for Claridge's, a set of crockery for Claridge's designed by catering company Chomette in the 1880s, some Le Corbusier armchairs and a Mark Rothko print. There's also a lot of furniture from The Berkeley's Blue Bar following its recent refurbishment.
