We’re here for those of you who wish to emote into a microphone while enjoying a cracking Chinese meal. You’ll know exactly what we’re talking about if you’ve experienced Galaxy Restaurant & Karaoke in Elephant & Castle, which while you can theoretically dine in the restaurant sans karaoke offers up a choice of private rooms to belt out your favourite tunes over a set menu. It has become quite the spot for a party and is likely to attract even more of a cult following when its new City outlet opens.
Spanning two floors in a custom-designed space in Broadgate, their new restaurant and karaoke space will still feature private rooms of varying sizes, right up to the Super VIP room (potentially holding up to 22 people, assuming it’s similar to the Elephant & Castle design). While your decision-making may revolve around whether to select Abba or BTS from their vast selection of tunes, your set menu comes with just a few parameters. The minimum spend depends on room size and they’ll serve food up until 1:30am. You can expect the following dishes to keep you going.
- Spicy sea bass hot pot with cabbage, sweet potato vermicelli, and potato slices
- Grilled enoki mushroom wrapped in tofu skin
- Grilled garlic scallops
- Braised beef brisket ramen
They also go big on hot pots with spicy sea bass and marinated intestines being the main draws.
There’s a (courage-inducing) drinks list that focuses heavily on spirits (including a shots list with choices of a B52, Crème Lychee or a Zombie), with a very short wine list, but also hot tea and soft drinks. And you can even order Kylie Minogue’s Prosecco Rosé to accompany your rendition of ‘Padam Padam’ if that’s your thing.
