London's Mexican dining scene continues to get ever better with the upcoming restaurant Ixchel in Chelsea.
Headed up by chef Ximena Gayosso Gonzalez, previously at Brat, Ella Canta and Dulce Patria in Mexico City, it features ceviches, tacos and tostadas among other dishes like:
- Sauteed prawn quesadilla, refried beans, pickled red onions and Morita chilli
- Albacore tuna sashimi with Ponzu toreada sauce, granny Smith apple with avocado on corn tostadas
- Achiote charcoal boneless chicken thigh with watercress leaves and a chilli sauce
- Roasted celeriac pastor with charred pineapple, coriander and red onion salad
There will also be a hidden tequila bar which they say will have "one of the largest collections of agave-based liquor in Europe".
As for the look of the place, we're promised a mural by Mexican-based artist Rafael Uriegas and terracotta and stone tables. But it's the Moon Bar which sounds particularly worth checking out. There they say "the phases of the moon delicately glow whilst below the bar the movement of a giant raw snake can be seen wrapped around the base". Intriguing, for sure.
