Last night saw eight London restaurants battling it out for this year's Croquetas Challenge. It's the sixth year that the competition has been run by the Salt Yard Group and the sixth year we've been judging it, so we couldn't wait to see what this year's finalists brought to our table.
Held at Salt Yard Borough after two tightly-contested heats here's what the restaurants served up last night:
- Salt Yard Borough - Prawn croqueta with prawn aioli and Sicilian prawn tartare (First prize - pictured above)
- The Collab - Buffalo chicken croqueta with bacon crumb, chicken skin and blue cheese sauce (Second prize)
- Vori - Moussaka croqueta with beef and aubergine (Third prize)
- Cin Cin Fitzrovia - Rabbit croqueta with wild garlic pesto
- Nanny Bill's - Mac and cheese croqueta with truffle mayo and pickled red chilli
- Bibo at Mondrian Shoreditch - Squid ink and octopus croqueta with black garlic mayo
- Bar Douro - Bacalhauwith quejo de Serra cheese croqueta
- Salt Yard Fitzrovia - Slow-cooked ox cheek croqueta with truffle manchego and pickled asparagus
- Vori - Moussaka croqueta with beef and aubergine (Third prize)
The winning team not only won £200 for their chosen charity but the croqueta will also be served at Salt Yard restaurants for two weeks with £1 for each sold going to the team's charity of choice. Having tried all of the above, we can attest that it's definitely worth your while seeking that prawn croqueta out while it's on.
