Updated 4/9/23 with opening date
The people behind Crispin (Spitalfields) and Bar Crispin (Soho) have their third opening lined up - Bistro Freddie.
It's taking over the space that used to be Oklava and will have a bistro-style menu using British Isles produce while focusing mainly on independent producers and growers.
In charge of the kitchen will be Anna Søgaard, previously at highly regarded Manchester restaurant Erst. A taste of the menu may include:
- Pork crackling & pickled walnut ketchup
- Grilled Mushroom parfait, watercress salad & fried bread
- Dorset snail flatbread, beef fat, garlic & parsley butter
- Fried skate wing, peas & curry sauce
- Rabbit & apple cider pie
- Milk ice cream & brown ale caramel
The wine list will be all-French and come from their Head of Wine, Alexandra Price, who also looks after the menus at Spitalfields and Soho. For that, she says she's taking the inspiration from the French cellar at Annabel's, which she previously looked after.
We've been waiting to see what would take over from Oklava, and this does seem like a very promising new Shoreditch opening.
