14/7/22 - updated with new photos of Outcrop
We've been waiting for the opening of AngloThai by John and Desiree Chantarasak but while it looks like we'll have to wait a while longer for that, they will in the meantime be popping up with a restaurant on The Strand.
It'll be part of Outcrop which comes from the team of Johnny Smith and Daniel Willis (Luca, The Clove Club) and part of the team of Secret Cinema. Opening at a venue which has hosted a few pop-ups, 180 Strand, the restaurant will combine John Chantarasak's Thai cooking with seasonal British ingredients. So on the menu, you'll find:
- Root vegetable som tam, tamarind & London honey
- Wye valley asparagus and sunflower seed satay
- Coconut smoked turbot bone broth
- Thai tea burnt cream.
Meanwhile, Desiree Chantarasak will be in charge of the low-intervention European wine list, all available on tap, while Bar Manager Rob Simpson (The Clove Club and Gymkhana) will be behind cocktails like the British Margarita (barley eau de vie, London honey and gooseberry).
On top of the food and drink, music will play a big part of the pop-up with DJs in charge of "musical journeys throughout the space, inspired by the natural world." Apparently, Outcrop is something that they plan to take on the road after the three-month pop-up, so we'll be hearing more from them in the future too.
