12/5/23 - updated with the opening details
It's been a while since we had a brand new Gaucho in London, the steakhouse from Martin Williams (who also runs M Restaurants) - over a decade, it turns out. But now they have a new restaurant coming to Covent Garden.
It's landing in a familiar site too. It's where Wahlburgers spent a few months pre-pandemic and where the great Sunda Kitchen popped up for an all-too-brief time. It's a big old space, but it's probably well-suited for a steakhouse, so we can see Gaucho actually making it work.
They've reimagined the space in a 1930s style with plenty of art deco touches. In the basement space they're making good use of the big spiral staircase and will have live music, DJs and tango performances down there. As for the main restaurant, it's about as all-day as it gets, opening from 8am to midnight with a good value set lunch and pre-theatre menu planned.
As for the menu, we wouldn't expect it to stray too far from the Gaucho formula. So it'll be an Argentinian-style steakhouse with the usual traditional cuts (ribeye, sirloin, fillet, rump) alongside specialities like tira de ancho with chimichurri and churrasco de chorizo marinated in garlic, parsley and olive oil.
And, like its sibling restaurant M, there should be some wagyu on the menu too.
