Update 8/5/23
We couldn't be more pleased to be able to update this story with the best news - L'Escargot's closure has indeed been temporary. Bookings are reopening for late May, a fact that's going to please so many people.
We have to say there were a lot of naysayers who believed that this - and we use the term advisedly - iconic London restaurant had closed its doors for good. Three months in, and even we were starting to feel a bit gloomy about its prospects. But, for once, sense has prevailed and a cornerstone of the city's dining-out heritage has been preserved.
All that notwithstanding, it's best to remember to 'use it or lose it'. So we urge you all to go and reacquaint yourself with the restaurant and its food.
Original story follows
Over the past few days, Hot Dinners has received a number of concerned enquiries from longstanding customers of the historic Soho restaurant L'Escargot. Many had spotted that the restaurant has gone dark over the past few weeks and, most recently, a legal notice appeared outside talking of lease forfeiture.
While this may all sound very bleak, our understanding is that there are positive discussions going on between various parties, including the landlords Soho Estates and the hope is that the restaurant should be able to reopen within the next few weeks. Right now the restaurant's website talks of being closed for refurbishment with a reopening date in March.
We'll be keeping our fingers crossed and will update you as soon as we learn more.
