4/5/23 - Updated with photos of the pub
It’s not often we have cause at Hot Dinners to speak of Tesco-related matters, but when the supermarket chain and retailer starts veering into dining-out territory, we feel it’s our duty. Tesco is opening a pub in honour of the King’s Coronation. Yes, you read that right.
Called The King in the Castle, it’s only a limited-time pop-up on the site of The Castle pub in Farringdon, but all proceeds will go The Prince’s Trust (founded by King Charles, when he was known as a Prince, of course). You can expect bunting aplenty, as well as jolly hanging floral displays, and if you’d prefer not to linger, there’ll be a tasting station outside where you can sample tiny portions of the main menu en route to your other Coronation long-weekend gatherings.
The extremely Coronation-themed menu is sourced from Tesco’s limited-edition range also available in supermarkets (£250,000 from the sale of which will also go to The Prince’s Trust). You can expect:
- ‘The Prince’s Crust’ (geddit) Pie
- Camilla’s King Prawn Curry
- Coronation King Prawn Sandwich
- Coronation-themed cupcakes
- Pork pies
There’ll be alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages available, including a ‘trifle-inspired’ bellini. The pub is taking bookings as well as walk-ins on their opening days.
