If you've been missing some Calum Franklin pie action from the pie maker extraordinaire, then you'll be pleased to know that he's making a special return for the coronation with a brand-new pie delivery.
Top Melton Mowbray pork pie producers Dickinson & Morris have teamed up with Franklin for a one-off King’s Coronation Pie, just in time for the upcoming celebrations. It's a big family-sized pie (it'll easily feed six) that takes its inspiration from King Charles’s love of British game. So inside, you'll find outdoor-bred British pork shoulder, pheasant, chestnut and Madeira jelly and then it's all finished by hand with royal-themed pastry detailing.
We actually managed to get our hands on an early production sample of the pie and it's really very good indeed - a complex filling, perfect pastry and a real depth of flavour to that Madeira jelly. Whether you're planning a coronation party or not, we think this is a must for any pie lover. We'd highly recommend it.
