Every now and again a restaurant or bar will open in what's pretty much the perfect location for it - and that's what it looks like with the latest outpost of Passyunk Avenue. The American dive bar with the best Philly cheesesteaks in London is opening just around the corner from the American Embassy in Nine Elms.
Taking over from where Homeboy Battersea used to be, this will be the fifth Passyunk Avenue in London. It'll be a pretty big space, fitting in about 200, and they'll have a private room which will be handy for visiting US dignitaries. As with the other Passyunks, there will also be plenty of TVs for sports watching which will, of course, lean to US sports.
As for the food, the menu will be led by their Philly Cheesesteaks which we remain completely in love with (the home delivery boxes get a huge recommendation from us). Alongside those are more speciality sandwiches, like their meatball parm or the Jersey Turnpike (chicken cutlet, roasted red pepper, mozzarella and balsamic vinegar served on a hoagie roll). Their chicken wings are well worth a look, and they're planning to introduce a burger to Battersea too (more details on that to follow soon) as well as a Pastrami Reuben.
They'll also be adding a Sunday brunch with all-you-can-eat (and drink, of course) for two hours, including breakfast sandwiches, tater tots and pancakes.
As for drinks (it is a dive bar, after all), expect plenty of beers on draught (including Sam Adams) and, as ever, they'll have Pabst Blue Ribbon in cans, plenty of whiskey (and whisky without the "e") and cocktails.
We think this will not only go down very well with the Americans working nearby, but also anyone in Battersea and Nine Elms.
