Eric's is ex-Flor baker Helen Evans' own bakery in East Dulwich

Updated 22/3/23 with the opening date

Earlier this year, the end finally came for Flor. It had previously been a restaurant, then carried on the bakery in Bermondsey before they called time on that too. While Flor was running, their head baker Helen Evans picked up a stellar reputation and now she's getting ready to open her own bakery.

Called Eric's Bakery Helen is aiming for a small neighbourhood affair and, like Flor before it, it will concentrate on championing UK-grown wheat, particularly that from low to no-input and organic farming systems and even some from a neighbouring Essex farm.

For the bread, she says to expect sourdough-based porridge bread rolled in flaked grains and seeded rolls, 100% rye tins and fruit loaves alongside topped focaccia, doughnuts, croissants, pains au chocolate and morning buns. They'll also have cheese from Neal's Yard, butter from Ampersand Dairy and more besides.

We'll have lots more info closer to the opening date.
