It's been a fair old while since popular cocktail bar Silver Lining had its last service in Hackney. So we're happy to be bringing you the news that another cocktail bar is getting ready to open in its place.
Atlas Grinds have been serving up coffee by day and cocktails by night over in Stoke Newington since the summer of 2021. Now they're expanding to Hackney, but the queer-owned cafe owners have something a little different planned for their E9 space.
Following successful crowdfunding, their new opening House of Hades will shine a light on up-and-coming chefs. As they explain, "We will be giving our kitchen away to chefs who have got great ideas but need the space to showcase what they can do. This will help us pave our way in helping talented and innovative people to achieve their dreams."
House of Hades will have a ground-floor restaurant and bar area, plus a lounge on the first floor along with a private dining room. There's also going to be a terrace on Morning Lane too.
The first chef to take on the space is Fatima Tarkleman, who describes herself as "a proudly queer development chef and sustainability and inclusion champion. To get an idea of what to expect from her menu, a recent dish from a vegan event she cooked for at Silas Yard by Columbia Road was Nettle gnocchi with almond-seaweed sauce, toasted cobnuts and baby nasturtiums.
The bar looks like it's going to be a handy late-night drinking spot on the weekends with a late licence till 2am. They're promising to keep things lively with DJ sets from some of Atlas Grinds’ friends from Cybill’s House, Dalston Superstore, Adonis, Riposte and Howl.
