7/3/23 - updated with Shoreditch reopening date
Gordon Ramsay continues his march across London with news that he's now in charge of a second London pizzeria - he now owns Pizza East.
The pizzeria was previously part of the Soho House group with a restaurant in Notting Hill and a flagship space in the Tea Building in Shoreditch (next to Lyle's). When that originally launched in 2009, it was a massive hit and arguably was one of the restaurants that led Shoreditch's reinvention as a dining (and drinking) destination. Soho House confirmed its closure last month, but now Ramsay has swooped in.
Ramsay already owns Street Pizza which, along with his Street Burger, has been expanding into multiple sites across the city. How does that fit in with this purchase? Will all those Street Pizzas become Pizza Easts or vice versa? Or will these sites be used for more of an upmarket brand? At the moment, his plans are yet to be revealed.
The main Shoreditch site is reopening, while the Notting Hill Pizza East space will be sold off. We'll have to wait to see if he plans to open more Pizza Easts (which does seem very likely given his recent form).
