30/1/23 - Updated with the opening date and menu details
Head chef Eran Tibi, from popular Southwark restaurant Bala Baya is launching a new dining destination called Kapara.
On the ground floor of Ilona Rose House in Soho (right next door to the latest Milk Beach), Kapara - that's Hebrew slang for ‘darling’ - will have an alfresco terrace for 50, a six-seater counter space as well as a Tel-Aviv-inspired all-day/night dining room that seats 70. All than and a raised stage for live music too. There’s also scope to transform all of this into a private dining space, if you’re looking for a special event venue.
If you’ve yet to visit Bala Baya, chef Tibi’s style of cooking brings modern Israeli influences along with skills honed at Le Cordon Bleu and Ottolenghi’s kitchens, so we’re keen to see how the restaurant develops in Ilona Rose House, where it joins other new outlets, including the aforementioned Milk Beach and The Little Scarlet Door.
The menu promises:
- Romano Carpaccio - charcoal marinated peppers, house goat's cheese, almonds, basil, rose
- Swiss Rolls - Freekah, apricots, baharat, date, molasses, swiss chard, pistachio
- Quince of Hearts - OX heart tartare, celeriac fondue, spiced quince, mustard, quince, cured blue hen
- Camel Market's Hero - Shwarma chicken offal, hummus, caramelised onions, amba tahini, coriander, sumac plum pickle
Plus there are platters that include whole red snappers, cod collar, and "Wasted?" which is Squid ink and took pasta, prawn bisque, saffron and cod's head fillets.
Weekend brunch should also be a highlight, and they're also promising a unique drinks list featuring Israeli wine and a dedicated gazoz menu (sodas infused with botanical herbs and fresh fruit).
