Applebee's Fish, which first started as a stall in Borough Market, is trying something new. The brothers behind it, Jack, Harry and Matthew Applebee are opening Spanish tapas restaurant La Gamba in the Southbank Centre.
They'll be largely concentrating on the north-western Galician region, with a particular (but not sole) focus on seafood dishes, which makes sense, given their sister restaurant. On the menu will be:
- St Austell Mussels cooked in albariño and chorizo sauce
- Cornish crab and fennel tostada
- Iberico pork cheek empanadas
- Galician picanha steak with truffle and San Simón cheese.
And yes, there will be Basque cheesecake and torrijas to finish.
As for the location, it'll be at the front of the Royal Festival Hall, facing the Thames. The touristy area could certainly do with some improvement on the food front, so this will be very welcome.
