Highbury Corner in Islington is doing rather well for wine bars right now. Not only does it have Yield and, a short 10-minute walk away, Provisions (both shops by day, wine bars in the evening) but one of Islington's best restaurants has also just opened a wine bar next door.
Trullo's wine bar takes over what used to be their shop. It's a tiny space right next to the restaurant with seating for about 12-15 (either at the window, the counter or the solitary table) in a space that's been completely redesigned since it used to sell their food for takeaway.
The wines will change regularly - by the glass on the board and bottles behind the counter too. Prices are pretty keen too with a glass starting at £6 (when we popped in, that was a 2021 Librares, El Mariyo) and an Alsace sparkling at £10 (a Crement from Alsace). Bottles start as low as £18, although that's the takeaway price (it's an extra £15 to drink in).
And yes, there are snacks too. They include pig's ear fritti with anchovy (£8.50), Focaccia with Le Ferre olive oil (£4.50), chicken liver crostini (£4) and cheese and crackers too. All that and a short cocktail list which, yes, does include a Spagliato (£6) alongside a Vergano Americano and soda (£6).
So if you're in the area, we think this is well worth a look.
