Fans of John & Yee Li’s Dumpling Shack rejoice - they're coming to London Fields in a two-for-one deal that gets you both a Dumpling Shack and the new Sichuan Fry in one.
The London Fields restaurant will come in two parts. On the ground floor will be Sichuan Fry, which they're saying is the "main event" (and is something they previously tested at Spitalfields Market). Here, it's all about fried crispy chicken buns, coated with "numbing and spicy sauces and oils".
On the menu here will be the signature Sichuan Classic (spiced with Sichuan peppercorns and chillis, coated in a sauce made from doubanjiang, pickles) and the Hot and Mala Mapo (with mala mapo sauce, spring onions, garlic sour cream and pickles). There will be a vegan version too and plenty of sides like 24-hour brined chicken wings, and fries with seasonings that include seaweed powder, salt and pepper or salted egg and chilli.
The drinks also sound great, including a Hong Kong Milk Tea flavoured milkshake.
Down in the basement is where you'll find Dumpling Shack - still revered as serving up some of the very best dumplings in London. That'll mainly be for takeaway and delivery, but if you want to sit in and eat there will also be 10 seats for that up on the ground floor. The main draw will be their pork pan-fried soup dumplings alongside dan-dan beef noodles and more. They'll also be using this kitchen to develop new dishes, let by their Development Chef Haydon Wong (previously Xu and BAO). They're planned to include shallot sauce noodles, Hakka style braised beef rice bowls and vegan dumplings.
