America's Angry Crab Shack arrives in London

7/3/23 - updated with the opening date

Hard on the heels of Boston's Saltie Girl opening in London comes news of another American seafood import.

Angry Crab Shack is a restaurant group that was first opened in Arizona back in 2013 by former NFL player Ron Lou. It's billed as a 'bib up and dig in' kind of place where seafood boils are the main attraction. If you haven't had one before, expect all manner of seafood cooked, seasoned and then tipped out onto a covered table for you to dig into.

Angry Crab Shack's USP is that it adds Asian flavours to the usual Cajun mix. Boils are priced according to weight - you pick from shrimp, crab, lobster mussels and clams - then you choose from a range of sauces including Cajun or garlic. Next - and this is the big bit for Angry Crab Shack - comes the spices. They range in punchiness from Mild aka wimpy (their words) through to Angry Ghost, Scorching Scorpion and Ridiculously Hot (order at your own risk).

In America, the seafood comes from all over, including lobster from the East Coast, Dungeness Crab from the Pacific Northwest, King Crab from the Bering Strait, Snow Crab from Canada and crawfish from the Gulf of Mexico. We'd expect a similar approach here, taking seafood from all over British waters. Other menu options on the US menu include lobster rolls, shrimp and grits and po'boys.

Their London location on Rupert Street puts them literally around the corner from another US seafood spot - Shrimp and Grill (formerly Bubba Gump) so it'll be interesting to see how they fare here.
