Oita take their Japanese kitchen to Chinatown from Wood Green

oita restaurant gerrard street chinatown london

For the past couple of years, chef Fan Yi's Japanese industrial chic kitchen concept Oita has been operating out of the Green Rooms hotel in Wood Green. The Chinese chef decided to go down the Japanese route with his first pop-up after spotting a gap in the market in the area, having lived there for over a decade. Clearly, he was on to something as what was originally planned as a pop-up is now the hotel's permanent restaurant.

Now the chef is expanding, heading into London with a second Oita opening up in the heart of Chinatown on Gerrard Street.

Menu-wise you're looking at, in addition to the usual sushi, sashimi and udon, a range of Japanese tapas dishes including:

  • Deep fried soft shell crab with sweet chilli
  • Terikyi scallops
  • Takoyaki
  • Pumpkin croquettes

The Soho offering will be mostly the same as you'll find in their Wood Green restaurant, but they did tell Hot Dinners that they were also working on "some new exciting dishes".
