Back in August, we had the news that Waterloo's much-loved Scootercaffe had suddenly been forced to close after 22 years.
In a post on their Instagram account, the vintage cafe's team explained that due to fire safety regulations, the building in which they've been delighting Londoners for more than two decades has been declared unsafe and as a result, the cafe was thrown out.
Fans, of which there are many, were quick to take to social to declare their disappointment at the decision. They included those who had their first date in the cafe to those who'd been customers since it was just a scooter shop on Crucifix Lane.
However, since then their fortunes have happily reversed. In a new Instagram post, they delivered an early Christmas present with the news that the cafe had actually been saved. It all came down to a bit of compromise: "we have managed to negotiate with the powers that be and reduce the amount of work needed to pass the required tests in order to open to the public again! Most of these changes will not be all that noticeable to the average punter, and there is still plenty to do but a lot of effort has been put in by us to make our survival possible."
So Scootercaffe is back in action once again! If you're in the area, that's definitely a good reason to stop in for a celebratory coffee.
