23/11/22 - updated with lots more info
News previously reached us of a new restaurant coming to Mayfair that seems to be going after the Cipriani and LPM crowd, called Mister Nice. Things were a little quiet after the first announcement - but now the restaurant is gearing up for an opening.
It'll be taking over the space left by Kallos Gallery on Davies Street and comes from French entrepreneur Jean Philippe Kley, founder and owner of private members’ club Nikita Mayfair and one of the people behind Beat members' club on Margaret Street.
In charge of the food is Executive Chef Javier Duarte (previously at Seabird and Barrafina) and what we know of the menu so far is that it will have dishes like:
- Starters that include burrata with fresh caramelized figs; Foie Gras terrine; omelette baveuse
- Crudos like yellowtail sashimi and scallops & bottarga.
- Mains include Le club sandwich, Le Big Nice burger, Rigatoni a la vodka, lamb cutlets, veal chop and and cote de boeuf to share.
They had us at club sandwich, frankly.
Drinks-wise, they will have a members' club of only 50 people with a no-corkage benefit, but otherwise they're promising a low markup policy and at least 16 wines by the glass.
As for the look of the restaurant, it's across two floors (ground and basement), each with their own distinct style. Upstairs is more of a bright look with plenty of light from Davies Street (image below) while downstairs has a darker, clubbier feel (see image above) with Assouline books adorning the walls.
Given the recent successes of Mount St Restaurant and The Twenty Two, we can see this in with a good chance at being another Mayfair hit.
