Chinatown's new popup space gets wheelcake vendors Dragon Cat Café as its first residents

It's hard taking your first step up the restaurant ladder, doubly so if you're looking to open anywhere in Zone 1. Which is why Chinatown has just launched a pop-up space that's all about giving fledgling food businesses a leg up.

They've carved out a spot right in the heart of Chinatown on Little Newport Street which will be used to give emerging brands a chance to showcase their wares on a busy West End thoroughfare.

First to take up residence is Dragon Cat Café, a Taiwanese bubble tea and wheelcake business which has been operating in Hammersmith for a few years now. Here in Chinatown, their self-styled wheelcake hut will focus on freshly made wheelcakes. You'll be able to try classic flavours like red bean, matcha, and vanilla custard alongside more unusual options like Oreo cheesecake and even cheeseburger wheelcakes.

“Being part of Chinatown London is something that simply wouldn’t have been achievable for us were it not for the support of [landlords] Shaftesbury," says Dragon Cat Café's co-founder Cynthia Lee of the opportunity. "Not just that, but they’ve put us in a unit within sight of Leicester Square station, which is incredible."
