56 Smithfield gives Farringdon an affordable new wine bar

56 smithfield wine bar opens in farringdon

We're always keen to hear about new wine bars opening in London. The arrival of 56 Smithfield in Farringdon couldn't be more handy in these cash-pressed times, particularly when you hear that this new spot is selling all the wines at their original, local winery prices. If you fancy drinking in, then just add a fiver as a corkage fee.

The folk behind it are the family who run organic vineyard Château De La Cômbe, in the South of France. For their London shop and bar they'll also be selling wines from like-minded winemakers. As owner Matt Landsberg explains: "When we’re not busy during the winemaking season, we regularly visit small wineries all over the world in search of special wines that are true to their terroirs. 56WS is our way of bringing these amazing wines to London."

As you enter you'll find the shop and bar, while one floor up is the lounge area with comfier chairs for a more relaxed setting. Then up on the top floor is a wine-tasting room for events and private parties.

On the food front, they'll be offering a selection of nibbles and charcuterie boards, with locally sourced cheese and meats.
