Edo Izakaya comes to Old Street from the people behind Soho's Robata

Edo Izakaya comes to Old Street from the people behind Soho's Robata

The team behind Soho's Robata is expanding - they're coming to Old Street with Edo Izakaya (taking over the space that used to be Flamboree, next to Officina 00)

The name comes from the inspiration for the menu, the Edo period of Japan (1603-1867), in which izakayas began to become prominent. Food-wise traditional-style and new-style sushi rolls, hand rolls and nigiri will be the focus of the restaurant. Alongside those you'll find tataki & carpaccio and snacks of fried squid, chicken karaage and tempura as well as rice and noodle dishes. We'll have full details of the food closer to the opening.

They're also promising an extensive sake menu, as well as cocktails focusing on Japanese spirits and flavours.

As for the look of the restaurant, we're told to expect a "modern interior balanced with intricate woodwork" and they'll have a separate chef's table and bar area too.
