17 January 2023 - Updated with a look inside
Big Mamma never do things by halves but they're taking things one step further as they head west to Kensington for their next restaurant Jacuzzi.
It's their next big opening after Ave Mario (notwithstanding a takeaway-only Napoli Gang) and while they have described their previous restaurants as Italian trattorias, this one is billed as a full-on Italian mansion. It's spread over 4000sq feet across four floors (it used to be a bank) and they'll be able to fit in 170 people. As for those four floors - expect:
- Alabaster walls and a giant lemon tree on the ground floor
- A retractable glass ceiling on the mezzanine
- Head up one floor to a green-hued boudoir with "murals to Italo fashion greats" (don't expect those to be subtle).
- And right down in the basement, there's apparently a "disco toilet".
As we know from all the other Big Mamma restaurants so far - it's going to look very different from everything else out there.
As for the food and produce, they're taking that up a notch too. Here's a taste:
- Culatello di Zibello from Onesto Ghiradi served with gnocchi fritti
- Pizetta topped with Italian Transmontanus Caviar by Kaviari from the Venice region
- Lobster Risotto with half lobster, clams, red gurnard and cuttlefish
And on top of that, they've super-sized their cheese pasta wheel to a truffle pasta for two with fresh black truffle, truffle cream and parmigiano foam, all in a 4kg wheel of pecorino.
As ever, desserts are another big draw at a Big Mamma restaurant and this is no exception. Here you'll be able to order a Cioccolato Fondue for two with Grand Cru Valrhona dark chocolate fondue and homemade churros. Expect to see that on more than a few TikToks.
So yes, they may not be subtle, but Jacuzzi has hit written all over it.
